Human Geography & International Travel

Understanding the world one place, system, and journey at a time.

Nate Michaels explores geography, travel, culture, commodities, borders, cities, and landscapes — and what happens when people and places collide. This is a home for field notes, practical travel systems, and a closer look at how geography quietly shapes everyday life.

About

I've spent years traveling independently and living abroad — in New Zealand, Australia, and the Czech Republic — and backpacking through parts of Asia and Oceania. Along the way I've spent a fair amount of time on a bicycle, touring through Central Europe at a pace slow enough to actually notice a place.

My background is in cultural geography and global studies, and that lens shows up in everything here: an interest in how people, places, economies, and cultures connect, and in the practical systems that make travel and living abroad actually work.

Nate Michaels is where that curiosity gets written down — part field notes, part practical toolkit.
